A sombre crowd gathered at the Narrow Tracks Distilling for the opening of ‘Loved and Lost — The Freshwater Raintree — In Pictures’, an exhibition documenting the community campaign to save a 19-metre, century-old raintree in Freshwater. The tree’s controversial removal brought an end to a campaign lasting more than 10 months, after Cairns Regional Council approved an application that allowed a developer to proceed with a dual-occupancy project on the Freshwater site. The beautiful documentary photographs by Brian Cassey, Kerry Trapnell and Jon Westaway will remain on display until Sunday, 26 July.
